FG BANS ADMISSION AND TRANSFER INTO SS3 NATIONWIDE FROM 2026/2027 SESSION

The Federal Government has announced a new education policy that will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

Students will no longer be admitted or transferred into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in either public or private secondary schools across the country.

The directive was disclosed in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, signed by Boriowo Folasade, the Director of Press and Public Relations.

According to the ministry, the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to address examination malpractice and rebuild confidence in Nigeria’s education system.

Concerns have grown over examination-related abuses, including the use of “special centres” during external examinations. As a result, schools will only be permitted to admit or transfer students into Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2).

The ministry stressed that no exceptions will be made, as admission or transfer into SS3 will be completely prohibited.

Officials explained that the policy is designed to stop last-minute student movement for examination benefits, to strengthen academic oversight, and promote consistency in teaching and learning.

School owners, principals, and other school administrators have been instructed to comply strictly with the policy. The ministry warned that any breach of the directive will attract appropriate sanctions in line with existing education laws and regulations.

The Federal Government also reaffirmed its dedication to raising educational standards, promoting fairness in national examinations, and rebuilding public trust in Nigeria’s education system.
