The Illusion of Preparation

I understand that feeling of productivity when you join a tutorial group. The notification that you've been added, the welcome message from the admin, determined to take this particular class seriously, but ‘for where’? After two days, you’re scrolling through past lessons, and you'll say, "I’ll definitely catch up on later because it’s not so many." It all feels like progress, but let me tell you, it isn't.

Joining a group is not studying. Saving a PDF you haven't opened is not studying. Being present in a Zoom session while your mind is somewhere else is definitely not studying.

The problem isn't that you're in too many groups. The problem is that being in many groups has become a substitute for the actual work. It tricks your brain into feeling prepared when you haven't retained a single thing.

More Options, Less Focus

Here's what actually happens when you're spread across five different tutorial programmes. On Monday, you attend Group A's Physics class.
